Welcome to the temporary home of the City of Kitchener’s Music Office. We recognize the contribution of the local music industry in building our economic vitality. This site will aim to provide resources, music news, event information and opportunities to musicians in an ongoing commitment to support their growth and entrepreneurial spirit. As the local music sector plans for recovery from the impacts of COVID-19, here is a listing of current funding opportunities, resources and advocacy groups, to assist in those efforts.

Ontario Arts Council

Next application deadline: SEPTEMBER 15, 2020 (apply 2 months before the deadline!)
The Ontario Arts Council (OAC) provides grants to Ontario-based individual artists and arts professionals, ad hoc groups/collectives and organizations.  Their streams include:

  • Creating and Presenting
  • Building Audiences and Markets
  • Engaging Communities and Schools
  • Developing Careers and Art Services


Next application deadline: AUGUST 28, 2020
FACTOR provides financial support for musicians to create and record their compositions, market their recordings, tour in Canada and internationally, and more.

Ontario Music Fund

Next application deadline: None available as all Ontario programs are currently closed to undergo a review and revamp.
Ontario Music Fund provides grants for the development of the music industry, music companies and live music production in Ontario.  It appears individual artists are best supported through this fund by forming business entities related to booking, management, publishing and labels.  Here is who received funding recently.

Canada Council for the Arts

Next application deadline: Ongoing

Canada Council serves artists working in numerous disciplines.  Musicians can apply for grants supporting

a) Professional Development and Career Advancement; and,
b) Circulation and Touring

Radio Starmaker Fund

Next application deadline: AUGUST 20, 2020
This fund is designed to help musicians who have a proven track record (e.g., record sales of 2,000 or greater) with marketing and tour support tied to new releases.

SOCAN Foundation

Next application deadline: Ongoing
SOCAN Foundation provides financial support to its members (composers, writers and publishers) for travel and professional development (conferences, workshops, seminars, etc.).  To become a SOCAN member you need to have written and recorded a song.  If you apply online, there is no fee to join.

Region of Waterloo Arts Fund

Next application deadline: Fall 2020
This regional granting body accepts applications twice a year for work in all artistic disciplines.  It offers excellent support for completing applications.

Music Ontario

Music Ontario provides professional development, information, education and support to empower emerging companies and musicians in the indie music sector.

Music Canada

Music Canada is a trade organization that promotes and protects the interests of the Canadian music industry.

Canadian Live Music Association

The Canadian Live Music Association works to promote the economic, social and cultural benefits of live music.

Folk Music Association of Ontario

This is a great place for folk musicians to network and stay informed.

Country Music Association of Ontario

This will keep local country musicians connected and informed.

Music Managers Forum

MMF is a great resource for managers and artists to keep up with the latest developments in the business.


The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences promotes music through the Juno Awards and Canadian Music Hall of Fame, and supports music through the MusiCounts program.

Music Publishers Canada

If you are a songwriter this site will help you understand how and why to publish your work.

Canadian Musical Right and Reproduction Association

This agency works with publishers and self-published songwriters to ensure songwriters get paid for their work.

Musician rights Organization Canada

This organization helps musicians track down royalties and neighbouring rights payments for playing on performances that are broadcast on radio or used in television or movies.

Canadian Independent Music Association

This association advocates for policies that support all of the players and small businesses that drive Canada’s independent music scene.

Music Export Canada

This organization helps Canadian artists export their music around the world.

Canadian Country Music Association

This association supports country music through the Canadian Country Music Awards, Country Music Week and the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame.
