Minister of Small Business and Tourism shows support for local small business owners at event in Cambridge
Cambridge, ON – On January 29, 2016, the Honourable Bardish Chagger, Minister of Small Business and Tourism, joined local small business owners at the Cyber Sales Toolbox event in Cambridge. The Minister and Member of Parliament (MP) for Waterloo was joined by Cambridge Mayor, Doug Craig, and MP for Cambridge, Brian May, to speak about her commitment to entrepreneurs and the resources available to help small businesses start and grow.
“Small businesses have a massive impact on the Canadian economy,” noted Minister Chagger. “SMEs make up nearly 98 percent of all business in Canada and employ nearly 8 million people.”
The annual half-day seminar organized by the Waterloo Region Small Business Centre invites local small businesses the opportunity to learn, share best practices and network with other entrepreneurs.
Chris Farrell, Manager of the Waterloo Region Small Business Centre, explained, “We can’t run our organization that supports small business and plan these kinds of events without the support of public sector partners,” she continued. “I am excited to work with Minister Chagger to support business owners in our shared community.”
Minister Chagger praised the Waterloo Region Small Business Centre, Canada Business Ontario and the Federal Economic Development Agency of Southern Ontario for their collaboration in putting on the event.
“Our Government is focused on supporting start-ups, small and medium-sized businesses and providing them with the opportunities they need to expand and grow. Supporting our local business ecosystem, supporting incubators, accelerators, and supporting innovation is important for me as both the Minister for Small Business and Tourism, and this region’s representative in the House of Commons,” said Minister Chagger.
The Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario) is part of the Innovation, Science and Economic Development portfolio and one of six regional development agencies in Canada, helping to address key economic challenges by providing regionally-tailored programs, services, knowledge and expertise.
Canada Business Ontario (CBO) is a service provided by FedDev Ontario and a part of the Canada Business Network, a program that provides single-window access to government information and services that support the small business and entrepreneur community.
In Ontario, CBO provides small- and medium-sized businesses with reliable and useful business information and customized secondary market research services – all at no cost.
