If you've incorporated your business, you've already registered your business name. If you've chosen not to incorporate, you'll need to register your business name with the province of Ontario, unless you're operating a sole proprietorship under your legal name. (Adding even one word to your legal name, e.g., Enterprises or Company, requires registration.)

How to Register
Business registrations cost $60, and a name search costs $8. Registrations must be completed online through Service Ontario. You may register online using your home computer OR by using the self-help public access workstations available in the Waterloo Region Small Business Centre. The procedure is the same regardless of the method you chose, however the Centre has staff here to assist you.
1. Registering online at home through Service Ontario:
Available - Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Payment - accepts credit card only.
You can print out your Master Business License directly from your home computer.
2. Registering online at the Waterloo Region Small Business Centre using self-help computers.

Steps:
* go to Service Ontario website www.serviceontario.ca * click "Services for Business"
* scroll down and click "Search, register or renew your business name
* click "Register or renew you business name" get a Master Business License
* click go to the start page to begin registering your business
* scroll down to the green button click "Do it Online Now"
